Valentine’s Day invites us to slow down and be intentional. While flowers fade and boxed chocolates quickly disappear, a homemade gift carries something more enduring. This feature celebrates the art of baking as hospitality, transforming a simple red velvet cookie into a gesture of thoughtfulness. Because the most memorable gatherings are not only beautifully hosted, but leave a lasting impression long after the celebration ends.

There is something deeply thoughtful about giving something homemade. It says, I spent time. I measured. I stirred. There is thoughtfulness and intention in every bite.
These red velvet cookies, crowned with white chocolate hearts and sparkling pink sugar, are more than a festive treat, they are an invitation to create tradition. Bake them the night before your gathering. Let the scent fill the kitchen. Stack them gently into small gift bags lined with parchment. Suddenly, your celebration has a final act.

What is the secret behind the magic of successful gatherings? Every experience should unfold in three chapters: Warm Welcomes, Magic Moments, and Fond Farewells.
The Warm Welcome might be a beautifully set table or a signature drink offered at the door. The Magic Moment may be laughter around the table, a toast, or a shared story. But the Fond Farewell is what guests carry home.
These cookies are the perfect Fond Farewell.

For an additional gesture of thoughtfulness, print the recipe, roll it into a scroll, and tie it with ribbon. Attach it to the bag so your guests do not just leave with cookies, but with the ability to recreate the experience.
A homemade gift extends the evening beyond your home. It turns a holiday into a tradition. Next year, perhaps a friend will bake them for someone else. The recipe becomes shared history.
Valentine’s Day is often about romance. But it can also be about hospitality. About sending people home feeling remembered.
A Fond Farewell does not have to be extravagant. It simply has to be thoughtful.
And sometimes, thoughtfulness looks like a red velvet cookie wrapped in love.

Red Velvet Valentine Cookies
INGREDIENTS
• One box red velvet cake mix (Preferred: Betty Crocker Delights – Super Moist Red Velvet) • ½ cup vegetable oil • 2 large eggs • 1 cup milk chocolate chips (Preferred: Nestlé Toll House)
• Reese’s White Hearts • Pink sanding sugar, for sprinkling
• Red Food Coloring (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Using a mixer, combine the cake mix, eggs, and vegetable oil. Mix until fully incorporated.
3. Gently fold in the chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough. Note: The dough will be slightly sticky. This is normal. For easier handling, refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes before shaping.
4. Scoop and roll the dough into 2 inch balls and place onto a parchment lined baking sheet, spacing evenly.
5. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the tops are set.
6. Remove from the oven and immediately press one Reese’s White Heart onto the center of each cookie. The warmth of the cookie will gently melt the base of the heart.
7. After 5 minutes, transfer cookies to a cooling rack.
8. Sprinkle with pink sanding sugar as desired.
