El Paso just got the Taylor Treatment…

It’s not every day El Paso gets name-dropped by the biggest pop star on the planet. But thanks to Taylor Swift’s new album “The Life of a Showgirl,” out today, our city now has a permanent seat at the glittery table of pop culture history.

And the song in question? “Elizabeth Taylor.” It doesn’t just give El Paso a casual shoutout; it digs into one of the juiciest chapters of our history: the time Elizabeth Taylor lived at the Plaza Hotel while engaged to Conrad Hilton (yes, that Hilton). Back then, Hilton’s Plaza Hotel was the crown jewel of El Paso, the very first high-rise Hilton Hotel. Imagine young Liz sweeping through the lobby, diamonds flashing, baby blues making bellboys faint with a single glance.

Fast forward to today: enter Taylor Swift, our reigning queen of confessional storytelling, who just immortalized this little slice of El Paso in a love song. I love knowing that our city is now tangled up in “Swiftian” mythology, alongside heartbreak, glitter, and eyeliner that never seems to smudge. What an honor. El Paso has long been a city of stories, but now we’ve been given the kind of cultural sparkle only Taylor can deliver. Elizabeth Taylor may have been our Plaza princess, but Taylor Swift just crowned us with a lyric.

Some cities get entire love songs. We’ll happily take a verse. Please excuse me as I play this track on repeat and strut into the Plaza Hotel lobby like Liz herself, listening to the song sung about her by none other than Taylor Swift. From one princess to another.

So thank you, Taylor, for reminding the world that long before you were selling out stadiums, Elizabeth Taylor was sashaying through our hotel lobbies, dripping with glamour, scandal, and possibly martinis.

Much love, Shelley Mozelle
