Gold Winners: Coconuts

Your local bar should be a place of comfort. Somewhere where people from all walks of life come together to unwind and enjoy themselves, completely free of pretensions. For many El Pasoans, that place is Coconuts. Opened eleven years ago, the Five Points bar has garnered a reputation for its great service, affordable drinks and warm atmosphere. “Customers feel welcome here, and they definitely are. I’ve always stressed a friendly staff above all else. How are you supposed to have a good time if the bartender seems annoyed to be serving you?” explained Coconuts owner and El Paso native, Noel Jimenez. It’s probably also worth mentioning that Coconuts is open 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.—and happy hour prices are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.!

After entering his second decade in business and having his bar being nominated for Best Happy Hour in the City, Noel was eager to thank those who’d made it possible: “I’m just so grateful to everyone who’s been involved with Coconuts. I’m thankful to Kelly Boren who gave me this opportunity in the first place, my amazing past and current staff, my brother Jacob Jimenez who I couldn’t do it without, my friends and family … and the El Paso community, especially Central El Paso, who make Coconuts what it is.”
