“I always wanted to be a doctor to heal people, it was that simple. Being sick is one of the most disconcerting things someone can go through … so to be able to make a patient healthy again is obviously very rewarding,” explained Dr. Mohammed Alnajjar, an internal medicine specialist located right near UTEP. Dr. Alnajjar began practicing in El Paso 20 years ago, shortly after having finished his postgraduate degree at Cornell University. When asked how he’d been able to build up such a loyal patient base over the years, Dr. Alnajjar stressed the importance of empathy, saying: “Patients want to be listened to, first and foremost. From there we work together to figure out the best course of action … I know everyone probably says this, but it’s really true in my case: I do not see my patients as numbers to be ticked off every day, they are humans and they deserve the utmost compassion. I, and my whole team, go above and beyond to solve their problems.”
Dr. Alnajjar went on to express how thankful he is to the El Paso community for having given trust and the opportunity to practice here for two decades. He hopes to continue for many more.
