As a young medical student in Mexico, Dr. Martha Manquero-Butler, a family medicine physician trained at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, was inspired by what science can do for the human being. Focusing on geriatric care for almost 20 years, started her private practice, New Light Primary Care, in 2010. Her practice encompasses nursing home care, hospital, clinic, and house calls to over 850 home-bound patients. Implementing faith into her practice is important. “There is no way my team could have gone this far without our faith in God. Our focus is the frail people in our community. Going back to the basics of care and seeing the patient as a whole, acknowledging a soul in their frail body, makes you feel that it is always an extraordinary time to be in the field of medicine and help in any way you can. We have to remember that the way we feel inside also affects our health,” Martha explains.
Dr. Manquero-Butler is going above and beyond to continue to serve the community, and working tirelessly, Martha is dividing her practice and turning the home-bound portion into a nonprofit—San Jose Moscati Medical Home, and will focus on continuing to provide care in the comfort of the patient’s home without worrying about the ability to pay and expand services not covered by insurances. She exemplifies this will be a way of community helping community. Referrals come from hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, and word of mouth. “Our team feels blessed to help our community and that’s what it’s all about. With God all things are possible,” Martha says.
